Make it!

Mr. Paul Barnes hipped us to this fantastic site that you type in what you want to make and a bunch of "how to" videos pop up. Very cool. Thanks Mr. Barnes!

What will you make?

Photos from the Lab

Two members of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Maker Lab team, Tim Mahoney and Lewis Scaife, snapped these photos from a few experiences in the lab last week. Participants created posters, worked on circuit boards, and even experienced a wood working demo from Tim.

Next week in the lab Lewis will be conducting a soldering demo for any interested adults and students in the community. Be sure to stop by on Tuesday, February 26th at 1:45 during the White Period if you are interested in learning how to solder!

What Happened in the Maker Lab today (or, Valentines Day in the Maker Lab)?

Several teachers, staff and students joined us today for a Valentines Day "Procrastinator's Special" in the Maker Lab. Maker-in-residence, Brian McHugh, had a wide range of rich materials for participants to create cards for their special loved ones.

We even had a special guest, Hannah Reimer, join us for the session. Hannah is a 7th grade teacher from Milwaukee, WI who is in San Francisco for a conference. Hannah and I worked together at the University School of Milwaukee.

We hope to see you in the Maker Lab during an upcoming White period this semester.

Keep on creating!

-Matt Montagne

Special guest, Hannah Reimer from Milwaukee, WI, joins us in the Maker Lab!

Maker-in-Residence, Brian McHugh, sharing a few basic techniques for creating a personal card.

Student Maker, Jake Tenhoff, sketching out some ideas for his mouse trap powered car that will compete in this spring's 'King of the Hill' contest in physics class.

Adults from the SHC community often show up to try their hand in designing and making. Pictured here is Carol Collins, who stopped by to create cards for her family members!

We had 5-7 students in the Maker Lab today to begin the process of designing stands for theirs mobile devices like iPhones and iPads. They were introduced to the lab itself and some basic tool use/building techniques by our maker-in-residence, Brian McHugh.

Enjoy a few photos from today's experience!

Make an iPad/iPhone/iPod Stand in our Maker Lab!

Sacred Heart Cathedral is launching a 'Maker Lab' and our first activity takes place today! We invited the entire community into the lab to create their own personal stands for iDevices and other mobile electronics.

We'll be certain to update with photos and videos that highlight our doings when we take a break from tinkering and making . We feel as though the process of reflection, learning documentation, and sharing is as important as the making itself.

See the flyer that our Maker-in-Residence, Brian McHugh, created for advertising this event to our student community.
